Common Reasons a Passport Photo Has Problems
Photo problems can delay a passport application. Before submitting, check the basics: a recent color image, direct pose, full visible face, correct background, even lighting, adequate sharpness, and the proper size for a printed application.
Common problems to look for
Watch for shadows, a textured or non-white background, blur, an open mouth, closed or obstructed eyes, glasses, a tilted head, an incorrectly sized or off-center head, and digital alterations.
Retake instead of retouch
If something is wrong with the original photo, the safest approach is usually to correct the setup and take another picture rather than digitally changing your appearance or background.
