U.S. Passport Photo Requirements
A U.S. passport photo must be recent, clear, in color, and show your full face directly toward the camera. For a paper application, the printed photo must be 2×2 inches (51×51 mm). The head must measure 1 to 1⅜ inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head.
Background and lighting
Use a plain white or off-white background without shadows, texture, lines, or objects. Lighting should be even, and the face should not be washed out or hidden by shadows.
Face and expression
Center your head and shoulders, face the camera directly, keep both eyes open and visible, and follow the current expression guidance for your application method. Eyeglasses generally must be removed.
Do not digitally alter the photo
The State Department says not to use filters, AI alterations, or editing that changes your appearance. ReadyPic screens measurable characteristics; it does not retouch your face or replace your background.
